Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said Canada “will respond” if U.S. President-elect Donald Trump imposes new tariffs on Canadian imports.

TORONTO — Canada’s ambassador to the U.S. said Prime Minister Justin Trudeau was successful in getting President-elect Donald Trump to understand that lumping Canada in with Mexico is unfair.

Donald Trump’s threat of 25% tariffs on Mexico and Canada would cost the U.S. economy as many as 400,000 jobs and increase prices for American consumers, according to the Mexican government.
