North American Class 8 orders in April fell below 20,000 units for the fourth consecutive month, FTR reported.

North American Class 8 orders for December were 21,300, falling sharply from a year earlier but about at replacement level as production slots remain scarce and full-year orders set an all-time record.

For the second consecutive quarter, Mack Trucks delivered fewer trucks than a year ago but received a surge in orders, as a result of an active construction segment and slowly improving freight environment in North America.

U.S. trailer orders in April rose 19% in what analysts said was an extended growth cycle that shows no signs of reversing.

New orders for U.S.-made goods increased for a fourth straight month in March and orders for capital equipment were stronger than previously reported, pointing to a sustained recovery in the manufacturing sector.

U.S. trailer orders climbed past 26,000 or about 24% higher, year-over-year, as cancellations increased to the highest level in five months, ACT Research Co. reported.

North American Class 8 orders in February hit a 14-month high as volumes cleared 23,000 and exceeded expectations, analysts said.
