Max McBrayer became CEO of Natso on July 1, the trade association for truck stop and fuel retailers said.
“Max brings a deep understanding of the fuel retail and transportation energy industries and their customers to this leadership position,” said Joe Zietlow, Natso chairman of the board.
“The board has full confidence that Max will build on his distinguished career to serve Natso’s members. We look forward to working with Max as Natso remains focused on advancing the long-term success and profitability of our industry and our members,” he added.
McBrayer most recently served as CEO of Atlanta-based fuel retailer and convenience store operator RaceTrac Petroleum. He left RaceTrac in 2024 after 31 years at the company and a couple of subsidiaries. McBrayer was replaced by Natalie Morhous, whose grandfather started the company.
“I am honored to assume the role of Natso president and CEO at such a pivotal time for the industry and the association,” McBrayer said. “I am committed to working with Natso’s board of directors and the leadership team to execute a strategic framework that will drive sustainable growth while strengthening member relationships, positioning Natso for the future while ensuring the association meets the needs of its members.”

Schulte and Mullings
Darren Boyd Schulte had served as interim CEO since January. The longtime executive at the trade group will remain with Natso, reverting to his prior position as vice president of membership.
Schulte stepped into the role after Lisa Mullings’ two-decade tenure ended. Mullings announced in December she would step down at the end of 2024 after 20 years as president and CEO.
Additional truck parking and proposed changes to fuel labeling were among the issues Mullings tackled toward the end of her tenure.
