Kia America Inc. has announced a recall of more than 80,000 Kia vehicles due to improper floor wiring that may impact the vehicle’s air bag deployment.

The Trump administration will review a rule adopted under President Joe Biden that would require carmakers to install automatic emergency braking systems on new vehicles.

In addition to installing video-based safety systems in the cabs of their trucks, some fleet operators also are deploying cameras on the side of the truck and even rear cameras on the trailer.

The FMCSA research aims to determine if modern warning devices for parked or disabled commercial motor vehicles can reduce crashes. It will collect data from 256 truck drivers.

As the use of onboard cameras has expanded in trucking, so have the capabilities of these video-based systems, which increasingly use AI to more efficiently extract insights from video.
