Trucking and logistics companies react to President Donald Trump's sweeping round of tariffs on dozens of trading partners announced Aug. 1.

A top administration official signaled confidence that President Donald Trump’s trade plans will survive even if the sweeping global tariffs are ultimately deemed illegal.

At an average of 15%, the world is still facing some of the steepest U.S. tariffs since the 1930s, roughly six times higher than they were a year ago.

When Trump signed the order late July 31 imposing new tariffs, the start date of the punishing import taxes was pushed back seven days so the tariff schedule could be updated.

The Labor Department reported Aug. 1 that revisions shaved a stunning 258,000 jobs off May and June payrolls.

The EPA's plan this week to relax rules aimed at cleaning up auto tailpipe emissions is the latest Trump administration move to undo incentives for automakers to go electric.

Derek Barrs, nominated by President Donald Trump to the top post at the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, was easily approved by the Commerce Committee July 30.
