The freight market experienced another monthly dip in tonnage due to choppy market conditions in April, American Trucking Associations reported.

The freight market finished the year on a downward slope as tonnage declined on both a monthly and annual basis in December, American Trucking Associations reported.

The ATA For-Hire Truck Tonnage Index decreased 1.8% to 112.5 in November from 114.6 in October. The index is down 1% compared with November 2023.

The freight market showed renewed signs of recovery in October after stumbling in September, American Trucking Associations reported.

The ATA For-Hire Truck Tonnage Index rose 1.8% to 115.8 from the prior month, and 0.7% compared with August 2023.

The trucking industry in July saw a sequential rise in freight tonnage but a decrease from the year-ago period, American Trucking Associations reported Aug. 20.

Truck tonnage in May continued its downward year-over-year trend, dipping 1.3% when measured against the same month in 2022.
