The New York State Thruway’s board of directors canceled the second of two meetings within four days at which the board was to address a proposed 45% increase in toll rates for trucks.

A group of local governments in southern Virginia announced they have hired an attorney to help them fight the state’s proposal to put a toll on the section of Interstate 95 that runs through the area.

Both of North Carolina’s major-party gubernatorial candidates said they oppose the state’s effort to toll its portion of Interstate 95, one of the nation’s major freight corridors.

Toll increases set last year by the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey are necessary if it is to maintain aging facilities and pay for planned capital projects, according to an independent audit, the Associated Press reported.

Virginia officials submitted an application late last month to the federal government seeking formal permission to toll Interstate 95, while the trucking industry and other opponents continued to push back against it.

American Trucking Associations is urging the U.S. Department of Transportation to reject an application by the Commonwealth of Virginia to toll I-95.

Sixteen local governments on or near Interstate 95 in Virginia have come out in opposition to the state’s plan to impose tolls on I-95, a group opposing the plan said.

The Ohio Turnpike has put an end to a system under which some truckers would avoid tolls on the road, the Associated Press reported.

New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo has notified the New York State Thruway Authority that he believes the proposed toll rates for cars on the new Tappan Zee Bridge are too high but said nothing about the proposed 45% toll increase for truckers Nov. 1 on the Thruway.

Truckers on the Maine Turnpike, which includes a stretch of Interstate 95, will pay up to 40% more in tolls beginning in November.
