The national average diesel price showed a modest gain after four straight weeks of accelerated increases, going up 1.1 cents to reach $4.389 a gallon.

Diesel prices climbed another 13.9 cents a gallon for the fourth straight week of a dime-or-more national average surge, according to data from the Energy Information Administration.
