Amplify Cell Technologies is pushing back the start of battery cell production at its facility in Mississippi to 2028 from 2027, Paccar revealed publicly for the first time Oct. 21.

GM agreed in 2022 to buy nickel supplies from Brazilian miner Vale as part of a strategy to build up its battery supply chain for EVs, but the pause has meant cancellation of the project. 

The companies say the collaboration is focused on helping fleets improve efficiency, driver comfort and reliability.

The loan, finalized by the Biden administration in November 2024, was among $400 billion in green bank deals halted by the Trump administration as part of its review of energy financing. 

CEO Darren Woods said the invention is being tested by several EV manufacturers.

The Texas oil giant is making several forays into low-carbon energy even as it expands fossil fuel production faster than its rivals.

The lithium mine closure has spurred speculation that Beijing might move to suspend other projects as it tackles overcapacity across the economy.

“To stay competitive, GM will temporarily source these packs from similar suppliers to power our most affordable EV model,” the company said in a statement.

The deal includes Northvolt’s flagship factory and a research and development facility, both in Sweden, and the site of a future factory in Germany.
