Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney said his country is prepared to resume trade talks “when the Americans are ready,” hours after U.S. President Donald Trump halted negotiations.

The Trump administration is launching a trade investigation that opens the door to new tariffs on Chinese goods, ratcheting up tensions before a highly anticipated Trump-Xi summit next week.

Canada is launching an antidumping investigation into truck body imports from China just as Prime Minister Mark Carney is trying to ease trade tensions with the east Asian country. 

The Department of Energy recently terminated $7.5 billion in grants for 223 projects that had been approved by the Biden administration.

“Overall, we expect modest contraction in our combined truckload fleet and growth in our asset-light segments," Covenant CEO David Parker said. 

The figures show that inflation continues to rise more slowly than many economists expected when President Donald Trump imposed sweeping tariffs in April.
