The Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration announced changes to how carriers handle different types of hazardous materials.
The rule, which goes into effect Oct. 1, creates a new classification for gasoline blended with 10% ethanol on shipping papers.
It also requires tank trucks with multiple compartments carrying biofuel blends to use additional markings, adds a new definition for “household wastes” and requires shippers to do research before picking a carrier to haul certain highly hazardous materials.
