Officials in Manitoba are considering stringent enforcement tools for repeat drugged and drunken offenders that could include forfeiture of commercial or private vehicles.

The Canadian province wants citizens to provide their views on forfeiture and other ways to crack down on these drivers.

Options include ignition interlock devices and breathalyzers that would prevent a vehicle from being started if a driver’s blood-alcohol level is too high. Lifetime license suspensions are another possibility.

Any revisions to the current laws would be intended to deal with habitual or repeat offenders, a Highway and Government Services spokesperson said.
