Amazon Breaks Ground on Logistics Center in Arkansas

Arkansas Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders on a new Amazon logistics center in Little Rock, a 930,000-square-foot facility intended to help speed delivery of goods to consumers.
“This strategic location in the heart of the heartland streamlines logistics processes and offers businesses easy access to critical transportation corridors. Areas like this are just one reason why Central Arkansas is a great place to do business,” Sanders said July 29. “I’m excited to see companies like Amazon choosing the Port of Little Rock — an area where river, rail, road, and runway all connect — to expand their business.” Construction is expected to take about two years.
Financial details of the venture were undisclosed, but Amazon’s Public Policy Vice President Andrea Fava noted the company is “proud to continue investing in Arkansas and Little Rock with this new facility.”
Amazon is already . The city, which sits at the Arkansas border, will be located less than a mile from Interstate 49 and just over 6 miles from I-30. Amazon is also building a facility in Fort Smith along the Arkansas River. The company has two more rural delivery stations in the state: one in northwestern Lowell in the Ozarks and the other in Hot Springs, located in Ouachita Mountains of central Arkansas.
Amazon ranks No. 1 on the Transport Topics Top 100 list of the largest logistics companies in North America and No. 1 on the TT Top 50 list of the largest global freight companies.
Little Rock Mayor Frank Scott Jr. welcomed the project to his city. “We are excited about this expansion and all the great things happening for job growth and economic development at the port and across our city.”
The new facility is expected to open in 2027 and will provide 1,000 full- and part-time jobs when fully operational. Since 2010, the company has brought 4,000 full- and part-time jobs to Arkansas, backed by $2.6 billion in investments.
“Little Rock is a national logistics hub, and Amazon will be well-served by the workforce they find in Central Arkansas. This facility will strengthen our state’s and the city’s logistics industry, while playing an important role in delivering value to Amazon customers,” said Clint O’Neal, executive director of the state Economic Development Commission, adding that Amazon has steadily expanded its operations in Arkansas.
The new logistics center will be located at the Port of Little Rock, which is accessible by five interstates: I-30, I-40, I-430, I-440 and I-630. The port has 2,640 acres of industrial land and two barge docking facilities. The port owns and maintains its own railroad, which handles over 10,000 cars annually.
Amazon’s investment will mark its second facility at the Pulaski County port. Pulaski County Judge Barry Hyde at the groundbreaking said, “Amazon’s continued growth at the Port of Little Rock reflects the strength of our community partnerships and the shared vision we have for Pulaski County’s future. This project not only brings jobs — it creates pathways for workforce development and long-term opportunity for our residents.”
