The U.S. economy expanded at a 5.6% annual rate during the first quarter of 2002, slightly slower than previously reported, the Commerce Department said Friday.

U.S. sales of Class 8 trucks fell 7% in April from a year earlier, to 11,882 units from 12,782. The year-over-year difference was milder than it had been in other recent months and followed a 10.9% drop in March and declines of more than 20% in the first two months of 2002.
