May 7, 2004April Payrolls Rise 288,000; Unemployment Rate Falls to 5.6%
The Labor Department said Friday that U.S. companies added a total of 288,000 workers to payrolls in April, including 21,000 manufacturing positions, the most in that sector since July 2000.
