Canadian Auto Workers union members have voted to strike soon at Canadian National Railway Co. and Canadian Pacific Railway Ltd. in a move that could affect both carriers’ intermodal shipments in that nation.

Union Pacific Corp. said Thursday its third-quarter net income rose 51% compared with the same quarter last year, to $778 million, or $1.56 a share.

Union Pacific Corp. said Thursday its second-quarter net income rose 53% to $711 million, or $1.40 a share.

Union Pacific Corp. said Thursday its first-quarter profit jumped 43% from a year ago as volumes increased.
