U.S.-Nafta trade in May increased 5.4% over the same period a year ago, aided by continued reliance on trucking, according to TransBorder Freight Data released today by the U.S. Department of Transportation.

U.S. trade with Canada and Mexico rose 1.2% in April to $100.1 billion from the same month last year, the Department of Transportation reported June 26.

The trade deficit ballooned in April to the widest in two years as Americans bought record amounts of consumer goods, business equipment and automobiles from abroad.

The trade deficit narrowed in March by 3.6% to $40.4 billion from the prior month’s $41.9 billion, the Commerce Department reported.
