Unions for workers at Overland Park, Kan.-based YRC Freight and two affiliated companies reached a tentative labor agreement that would result in wage increases over the next five years for most who are covered under the proposal.

Dave Mauer and other Central States pensioners in the Rockford area have formed the Illinois/Rock River Valley Committee to Protect Pensions. The group has scheduled an April 6 meeting at the Teamsters Local 325 union hall in Rockford to mobilize and pressure Congress to rescue failing multiemployer pension funds.

The Teamsters warned Stop & Shop that its members would support the supermarket’s union in any labor stoppage as a result of the current impasse in contract negotiations, with nearly 700 warehouse workers and 250 drivers delivering food and other products to Stop & Shop stores in southern New England.

Four hundred twenty-five union workers at the Ford Truck Plant in Louisville, Ky., who were told Feb. 20 they were being laid off April 21, will not be out of work, according to a Teamsters union leader who spoke with Transport Topics.

The International Brotherhood of Teamsters has ratified a new five-year contract with UPS Inc. for the company’s estimated 255,000 drivers and other employees who handle small freight.

Local union leaders with the International Brotherhood of Teamsters which represents UPS Inc. and UPS freight workers approved on Aug. 9 two separate five-year national contracts. This paves the way for the 250,000 workers, including drivers, loaders, package sorters, dockworkers and operations team members and 11,000 freight workers to vote on the contacts in September.

UPS Inc. and the International Brotherhood of Teamsters have reached a tentative agreement on a new five-year contract that will cover an estimated 11,000 UPS Freight employees, the package delivery giant and union announced July 13.
