The Oakland A’s plans to build a waterfront ballpark and development at the Port of Oakland hit a setback March 16 after some members of a state committee said they were concerned that the port would give up valuable space used for freight and truck parking.

Beginning in early March, the Port of Oakland, with the help of the U.S. Department of Agriculture, will set up and operate a 22-acre, multimillion-dollar pop-up container yard specifically for agricultural exports.

Facing a loss of business to larger container ports in Southern California, the Port of Oakland will permanently expand its agriculture export business beginning March 1.
