Canadian carrier Mullen Group Ltd. increased revenue by C$23.3 million, or 7.9%, to $319 million in the second quarter ended June 30, according to a company news release.

Mullen Group reported higher revenue and profits in the fourth quarter of 2018 despite a “market meltdown” caused by falling oil prices that curtailed demand for transportation services as the year ended.

Mullen Group reported strong revenue growth in its Canadian trucking business and expanded its oil field transportation services with a couple of key acquisitions, but the company’s profits dipped in the third quarter of 2018 as it dealt with rising costs and a decline in the value of the Canadian dollar.

A surge in revenue from truckload freight hauling was enough to offset a downturn in oil field services for Canada’s Mullen Group, but the extra profits from trucking weren’t enough to salvage the company’s bottom line, which took a big hit in the first quarter.

Canadian truck and logistics firms TFI International and Mullen Group Ltd. reported increased earnings for 2017, but TFI's results were mixed in the fourth quarter while Mullen set revenue records for its trucking/logistics segment.
