Truckers in the Northeast, particularly Vermont, were dealing last week with washed-out roads and collapsed bridges in the aftermath of Hurricane Irene. Flooding in New Jersey took out an interstate highway bridge on a key truck route.

Missouri River floodwaters that have covered miles of roads around the northwest part of the state for nearly three months are continuing to cause roadway headaches for towns suddenly dealing with increased traffic, the Associated Press reported.

Hurricane Irene rainfall has caused extensive flood damage in northern New Jersey where a section of the northbound lanes of Interstate 287 collapsed Sunday night north of the intersection of Interstate 80.

The westbound lanes of Interstate 40 in eastern Arkansas remained closed for a fifth day Tuesday because of flooding in the region, though the eastbound lanes have reopened, according to the Arkansas Highway and Transportation Department.

Interstate 35 was closed near Ames, Iowa, Wednesday afternoon due to flash flooding, the Des Moines Register reported.

Sections of Interstates 24 and 40 remained closed around Nashville, Tenn., Monday morning as flooding left several feet of water on roadways, the Tennessean newspaper reported.

Interstate 95 remained closed in Rhode Island Thursday as the state continued to contend with the worst floods in more than 100 years, news services reported.
