J.B. Hunt Transport Services Inc. reported that its fourth-quarter net income rose 9.4% to $91.9 million, or 77 cents per share, helped by stronger intermodal, brokerage and dedicated freight business.

Truckload carrier Marten Transport reported 2013 was the best financial year in its history, but fourth-quarter income declined.

Knight Transportation Inc. has increased its profit forecasts for the fourth quarter of 2013 and the first quarter of 2014, citing better performance than it had previously expected.

Covenant Transportation Group Inc. said it expects fourth-quarter 2013 net income of 18 cents to 22 cents a share, compared with 10 cents a share in the previous year’s quarter.

Truck component maker Meritor Inc. said its fiscal fourth-quarter earnings jumped from a year ago in part on the sale of its stake in Suspensys Sistemas Automotivos.

YRC Worldwide Inc. delayed its scheduled Nov. 7 third-quarter earnings announcement until Nov. 12 to provide more time for contract modification talks with the Teamsters as lenders press the less-than-truckload carrier to lower its costs.

Knight Transportation Inc. said Oct. 23 its third-quarter profit declined on a “difficult operating environment.”

Norfolk Southern Corp., Canadian Pacific and Canadian National Railway Co. reported their third-quarter profits increased.

Rush Enterprises said its third-quarter profit increased to $15.2 million, or 37 cents a share, from $14.9 million, or 38 cents, a year ago. Sales rose 22.5% to $913.1 million.
