Once again, the fuel price snake has turned its head and for nine weeks now has been favoring truckers and motorists with some relief. But we’re all experienced enough — or should we say skeptical enough — to know that the relief is surely short-term. Or is it?

The national diesel price average declined another 3.6 cents last week, continuing a two-month slide that has seen the average retail cost of trucking’s main fuel fall 30.8 cents in the past two months.

Retail diesel prices declined for an eighth consecutive week as the national average reached its lowest point since Aug. 6 after dipping 5.5 cents to $3.887 a gallon, the Department of Energy reported.

Vermont’s Senate cut back on a planned gasoline tax increase passed by the House, but proposed raising the state’s diesel tax, the Associated Press reported.

The U.S. diesel average price declined 3.5 cents last week to $3.942 a gallon, the Department of Energy reported, while the price of crude oil tumbled to its lowest level this year.

U.S. retail diesel and gasoline prices continued to drift down from their winter highs, with both refined products declining for a sixth straight week, the Department of Energy reported.
