Amazon .com Inc. lifted restrictions established during the holiday shopping season that had prevented third-party merchants selling goods on the site from shipping packages with FedEx Corp.’s ground service.

NEW YORK — It’s just a week into the holiday shopping season, and Amazon already  is having trouble getting packages to shoppers’ doorsteps on time.

Amazon.com is preparing to open Amazon Go supermarkets and pop-up stores, an expansion of the company’s cashierless ambitions that includes the possibility of licensing the technology to other retailers.

In a letter sent to federal lawmakers, an online merchant has accused Amazon.com of forcing him and other sellers to use the company’s expensive logistics services, which in turn forces them to raise prices for consumers.

Amazon.com’s shipping costs skyrocketed 46% year-over-year in the third quarter to a record $9.6 billion, an increase of more than $500 million over what the online retail giant spent during the same period in 2018.
