Trailer manufacturer Wabash is expanding options for customers of its trailers-as-a-service product line.
TaaS is an alternative to leasing or buying a trailer for asset-light third-party logistics providers. Large motor carriers typically are the biggest providers of trailers in this segment of the market.
Wabash customers will now have two options:
- TaaS Pools is a universal, service-provider-agnostic trailer pool. Instead of sourcing and maintaining separate pockets of capacity, shippers gain access to a nationwide pool of trailers.
- TaaS Plus offers 3PLs and brokers an opportunity to operate more like an asset carrier.
TaaS Pools aims to cut dwell time, improve dock efficiency and ensure predictable trailer availability, Wabash said.
Wabash is offering three tiers of service for TaaS Plus, ranging from trailer capacity access to full-service programs.

“Our mission has always been to enable logistics providers to grow with flexible, scalable trailer solutions,” said Mike Pettit, chief growth officer at Wabash. “With TaaS Pools and TaaS Plus, we are taking another step forward in helping shippers, carriers and 3PLs overcome today’s supply chain challenges with confidence.”
“Our customers think about trailers the same way they think about other procurement choices — with a focus on cost, assurance and flexibility. As a trailering company, we’re meeting that need with TaaS, giving them the same control without asset ownership,” said Brett Suma, managing director at Wabash.

Launched in July 2022, Wabash’s TaaS product allows customers to obtain flexible terms, unlimited mileage, insurance and loaners. Maintenance and telematics are included in the price.
Fleet Expansion, Additional Security
Wabash in February bought cargo security specialist TrailerHawk.ai for an undisclosed sum. TrailerHawk provides smart access management and a verified asset chain of custody.

Wabash also is expanding the size of the trailer fleet in the TaaS program.
In March, Wabash’s TaaS business had around 1,000 trailers, but as many as 4,000 trailers may be available by the end of 2025, Brion St. Amour, senior commercial director of Wabash Marketplace, told Transport Topics.
“We are growing our fleet as a result of where we see the market in two or three years’ time,” St. Amour said on the sidelines of American Trucking Associations’ Technology & Maintenance Council Annual Meeting and Transportation Technology Exhibition in March.
Parts, Service Centers
Wabash also is upgrading the support network for customers, opening parts and services facilities in Gary, Ind., and Atlanta in September before further sites open in 2026.
Located on Interstate 65, Wabash expects the Gary facility to provide faster access to parts, service and truck body upfitting for customers across Illinois, Indiana, Wisconsin, Michigan and Iowa.
“We see parts and services as the connective tissue between manufacturing and long-term customer support,” said Brian Bauman, vice president of retail services. “As we continue to grow this platform, we’re not just expanding our footprint; we’re creating durable value and adding stability to the business, even in a challenging market.”
The Gary facility will be the first Wabash parts and service site to support refrigerated truck bodies and provide diesel truck repair services.
Wabash already had service centers in California, Florida, Ohio, Pennsylvania and Texas.
