U.S. Average Retail Diesel Price Rises 0.6 Cent

The U.S. average pump price for diesel fuel rose 0.6 cent in the past week, to 144.3 cents per gallon as of April 23, the Energy Department reported Monday.

That marks the fourth consecutive weekly increase in the price.

In its last report, the Energy Department said the price had risen four cents per gallon. The total increase during the past four weeks now stands at 6.4 cents. This increase follows eight weeks of decline, which totaled 16 cents.

The average price gain was mixed across the department's regional listings, with the Midwest and West Coast holding unchanged. However, the California price retreated one-tenth of a cent.

The U.S. Energy Information Agency surveys 350 fueling stations at the start of each week, and reports the results on the same day that it polls the stations.
