Qualcomm Adding Hours Tracker to Mobile Comm. System

ualcomm Inc. said Monday that it will have a new hours-of-service tracking device ready to add to its OmniTracs mobile communications systems starting this summer.

The new application will make use of an electronic on-board recorder embedded in the OmniTracs system will comply with U.S. Department of Transportation regulations governing of EOBRs, Qualcomm said in a statement.

“Beyond DOT compliance, we wanted [the] application to provide functions that significantly increase the productivity and efficiency of drivers, dispatchers and load planners,” said Joan Waltman, the new president of Qualcomm’s wireless business solutions division.

The system will include driving-time detection, minimizing driver interaction and data entry; a Web interface for review of driver status, availability and reports; automatic HOS reports for driver management and safety; and near real-time notification to drivers and dispatch of impending or actual violations, Qualcomm said.
