Federal Committee Issues Report On Illinois CDL Probe
A federal transportation committee on Wednesday found that the state of Illinois has issued several fraudulent commercial drivers licenses, the Associated Press said.According to the U.S. Department of Transportation panel, more than 60 commercial drivers received licenses in exchange for bribes during the last few years. Illinois Governor George Ryan said the state is examining the finding.
Though it requires more monitoring and oversight, the panel said the Illinois program is fundamentally sound.
Summit Gets Injunction Against Teamsters
Summit Logistics, which runs a grocery warehouse for Safeway in Tracy, Calif., won a court order preventing striking Teamsters from following people leaving the facility, or from carrying clubs or other weapons, the Contra Costa Times reported Tuesday.
The story said the ruling followed an incident in which strikers allegedly tried to drag a Summit supervisor from his car on Nov. 24, and threw rocks at vehicles Nov. 24 and 25, the paper said.
A local Teamsters official admitted violence had been committed, but told the paper that the union did not condone it.
Although the Teamsters had said a meeting of the two sides had been set for Nov. 28, it apparently was never held, the paper said. Transport Topics

The Wayne, Pa.-based company announced a $45 million infusion of financing one month ago, and is already providing data for Los Angeles, Houston and Philadelphia. The company plans to eventually deliver data to vehicles digitally through onboard telematics devices. Transport Topics
Pallet Management Systems Reports Q1 Earnings
Pallet Management Systems Inc. () reported net earnings of $55,000 or 1 cent per share for the first quarter 2001, compared to a loss of $1.7 million or 43 cents per share during the same period last year. The company said the improved earnings came from an increased demand for specialized pallets.The Coral Gables, Fla.-based company manufactures pallets and provides reverse distribution services. Dutch Vehicle Distributor Pon Denies Interest in Beers NV
Dutch vehicle distributor Pon NV denied that it had any interest in buying a stake in Beers NV, a Dutch trucking services company, Bloomberg reported.However, Beers officials said that Pon had suggested buying a 35% stake in Beers.
Earlier this month, Swedish truck maker Scania said it would buy the 50.1% of the shares it already does not own in Beers. Transport Topics
Official Says Chrysler Misled Daimler-Benz
A DaimlerChrysler () board member said that former Chrysler Corp. kept important information from Daimler-Benz before its purchase, Bloomberg reported from the German magazine Wirtschaftswoche.In 1998, the German truck and car maker bought Chrysler.
