Pennsylvania Provides $55M to Boost Freight Rail Projects

HARRISBURG, Pa. — Thirty rail freight improvement projects are slated to share $55 million as part of efforts by Gov. Josh Shapiro’s administration to boost Pennsylvania’s infrastructure and economic growth.
PennDOT announced that the funds will create or sustain 344 jobs and help construct new rail lines while also maintaining and improving approximately 5,600 miles of existing freight lines.
The funding, which aids private rail operators and the businesses they serve, comes from Pennsylvania’s Rail Transportation Assistance Program and the Rail Freight Assistance Program.
The State Transportation Commission voted to approve the allocations.

PennDOT identified the 30 approved rail freight projects, including $1.8 million to rehabilitate and replace rail on the North Shore Railroad’s mainline, and $2.5 million to expand rail car storage and construct supporting unloading equipment for Clark’s Feed Mills Inc.
