The Occupational Safety and Health Administration will not meet its self-imposed deadline to have new recordkeeping forms in place by January, Administrator Charles N. Jeffress said Sept. 14.
It is now shooting for January 2001. In February 1996, the agency published a notice of proposed rulemaking to revise its recordkeeping requirements.
Jeffress said the new rules will offer clearer definitions of when an injury is related to work, a better explanation of what constitutes light duty and a simpler recordkeeping form.
Noting that OSHA plans to help employers and state OSHA programs learn the new system, Jeffress said, "To do it right, we need ... more than a couple of months to gear up."
