LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Origo displayed its new OrigoSafe ignition interlock system at the Mid-America Trucking Show here.

The ignition interlock system requires drivers to secure their phones in a docking station before turning on the engines.

During a demonstration for journalists, company officials showed how truckers could remove the phone onceÌýthe parking brake had been engagedÌý— and the series of alarms that go off if the phone is removed while driving.

When that happens, an automatic notification is sent to the fleet, which also has the ability to restrict vehicle usage by linking drivers, phones and trucks.

Origo said several fleets will test the system soon. It does not restrict verbal communications with the phone while the truck is in motion — itÌýsimply eliminates the chance of handheld use while the vehicle is moving.

Earlier in March, the company announced the rollout of OrigoSafe for passenger cars asÌýpart of its productsÌýoffered to help eliminate distracted driving.
