Safety officials in the United States and Canada placed 26% of the 42,826 trucks and drivers they inspected out of service as part of International Road Check 2000.

The results of the coordinated 72-hour effort in the first week of June compared with an out-of-service rate of just under 21% last year.

This year’s percentage was pushed up by the greater number of intensive Level 1 inspections, according to the sponsoring organization, the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance.

Also, more inspectors took to the field and completed 5,000 more inspections than in last year’s campaign.
