New ID Will Be Needed to Cross Into Canada
Margaret Gordetsky
| Staff ReporterBeginning Jan. 8, 2001, CCRA will no longer accept the generic 2ITN carrier code on Prearrival Review System bar-coded customs documentation. CCRA warns that carriers not using their unique code by this date may be delayed crossing the border into Canada. Some may even have penalties assessed.
The 2ITN carrier code is a generic identification number for itinerant, or non-bonded, carriers. However, some trucking companies under PARS were still using the 2ITN codes because they were able to get preprinted documents at no cost from CCRA with bar codes already on them.
