Nafta Surface Trade Rose 11.3% in February

urface trade among the U.S., Canada and Mexico rose 11.3% in February to $53.6 billion, the Department of Transportation reported Thursday.

Surface transportation consists largely of freight movements by truck, rail and pipeline. About 90% of U.S. trade by value with North American Free Trade Agreement partners Canada and Mexico moves by land.

U.S. imports by truck rose 10.4% over February 2004 to $18 billion, while exports increased 10.1% to $16.3 billion, DOT’s Bureau of Transportation Statistics said.



ail imports rose 6.4% to $6.3 billion year-over-year, while exports jumped 23.8% to $2.2 billion. Pipeline imports rose 13.6% to $2.8 billion while exports leaped 224% to $67 million.
