Landstar System Reports Record 2Q Earnings

ruckload carrier Landstar System Inc. said Thursday that it earned a record $23.5 million or 39 cents a share in the second quarter, compared with $17.6 million or 29 cents a year earlier.

The company said its revenue rose about 12% to $539 million, also a record.

The firm said its carrier group of companies generated $412 million in revenue for the quarter, up from $364 million in the second quarter of last year.

Revenue from truck brokerage operations grew 39% from the previous second quarter, Landstar said in a statement.

Chief Executive Officer Henry Gerkins said he expected Landstar’s earnings for the third quarter to be in the range of analysts’ estimates of 36 to 41 cents a share.

andstar is ranked No. 15 on the Transport Topics 100 list of the largest U.S. and Canadian trucking companies.
