Labor Talks Canceled at LBT Plant

OMAHA, Neb. (AP) - The strike of an Omaha union against LBT, Inc. continues after scheduled talks this week were abruptly canceled by the company Tuesday.

LBT, owned by Canada-based Remtec Inc., makes truck trailers.

Negotiations this week were aimed at ending a strike that has idled the plant since June 12.

Paper, Allied Industrial, Chemical, Energy Workers International Union Local President Jerry May said Tuesday that no reason was given for the cancellation.

LBT General Manager Dave Roberts confirmed the meetings were called off but also gave no reason. Neither side would disclose issues that have stalemated negotiations.

May says 120 of LBT's 130 production workers are local members.

Roberts says the strike halted all production work at the former Fruehauf Trailer Corp. plant.
