Judge Presses U.S., CSX Over D.C. Hazmat Plans

| Staff ReporterASHINGTON — A federal judge said last week he was “astounded” that neither railroad nor federal officials could tell him what the government’s plans were for protecting the U.S. Capitol from possible attacks involving hazardous materials cargo carried by rail.
U.S. District Judge Emmett Sullivan commented during a March 23 hearing on a lawsuit by railroad company CSX Transportation challenging the District of Columbia’s ban on hazmat shipments through part of the city, including Capitol Hill.
