asoline prices surged an average of 8 cents a gallon over the two-week period between June 11 and June 24, according to the latest Lundberg survey of filling stations.
ith the summer driving season under way, the average retail price for all three grades of gas hit $2.24 a gallon, the survey said. Self-serve regular averaged $2.21 a gallon.
The Department of Energy’s reported record for gasoline was $2.28, reached on April 11. DOE's weekly price survey is scheduled to be released Monday afternoon.
Crude oil futures have hit record prices the past three trading days, at $60 a barrel.
Analyst Trilby Lundberg said pump prices are being supported by demand, which continues to grow.
The highest price for unleaded regular was in Honolulu at $2.46 a gallon. The lowest was in Charleston, South Carolina, at $2.04 a gallon.
