The national average diesel price rose 6 cents a gallon to $3.536, its first increase since early April, according to data released May 20.
Before the increase, trucking’s main fuel had dropped each week since April 14, totaling 16.9 cents. The last rise before this one came April 7 at 4.7 cents.
On average, a gallon of diesel costs 25.3 cents less than at this time in 2024.

Regional Trends
Diesel’s average price increased in all five PADD districts in EIA’s weekly survey, with the biggest rise coming in the West Coast region at 8.5 cents. When including subregions, the steepest incline came in the West Coast less California subregion, with a 9.3-cent rise. The smallest increase came in the Central Atlantic subregion, which experienced a 1.1-cent bump.

Gasoline Update
The national average price of gasoline gained 5.3 cents to $3.173. That’s still 41.1 cents less than it cost at this time a year ago.
