The national average diesel price changed course from a week earlier, dropping 4.9 cents to settle at $3.487 a gallon, according to data released May 28.
Trucking’s main fuel increased 6 cents the week of May 19, interrupting a run of five straight price drops that had totaled 16.3 cents.
The price for a gallon of diesel is now 27.1 cents less on average than it was at this time in 2024.

Regional Trends
Diesel’s average price dropped in all five PADDs, with the Rocky Mountain and Gulf Coast regions shedding 6.7 and 6.5 cents, respectively. The Central Atlantic subregion of the East Coast showed a rise of 1.3 cents.

Gasoline Update
The national average price for a gallon of gasoline dipped 1.3 cents to $3.160. That’s 41.7 cents less than it was in the year-earlier period.
