Diesel Price Cools Off, Drops 4.8¢ to $3.727 a Gallon

Trucking companies were provided some relief on fuel prices as they welcomed July, with the national average price of a gallon of diesel decreasing 4.8 cents to $3.727 a gallon, according to data released July 1. It’s the first time the price of diesel has dropped since June 3, as trucking’s main fuel had gained 32.4 cents over the prior three weeks thanks to rising tensions in the Middle East. After a one-week blip, the cost of a gallon of diesel again dipped below the year-ago level, at 8.6 cents less than the 2024 level.

Regional Trends
The average price of diesel dropped in all five PADDs, with the Gulf Coast posting the biggest decrease at 6.7 cents. The smallest drop came in the East Coast region, at 1.5 cents. When including subregions, there were two that experienced increases — New England and the Central Atlantic at 1.3 and 2.3 cents, respectively.

Gasoline Update
The national average price for a gallon of gasoline dropped 4.9 cents to $3.164. Gas is now 31.5 cents cheaper than a year ago.
