Clean Energy Fuels Corp. is accelerating its renewable natural gas growth, signing new fueling agreements with major trucking and waste-hauling fleets across the country to meet surging demand for cleaner, lower-cost transportation fuel.
The Newport Beach, Calif.-based company said the contracts span fuel supply, operations and maintenance, and construction of new stations, reflecting continued momentum for RNG as a ready solution for fleets cutting emissions without costly overhauls.
“As more fleets look to decarbonize their operations, RNG continues to stand out as a proven, economical and scalable solution that is ready now,” said Chad Lindholm, senior vice president at Clean Energy.
Among the largest deals is a renewed agreement with USA Hauling & Recycling, which will receive 2.5 million gallons of RNG annually to fuel 150 refuse vehicles across Connecticut. Clean Energy also is building the company’s fifth fueling station in South Windsor for 40 additional RNG trucks.
Wisconsin-based Paper Transport expanded its long-running partnership, signing for 250,000 gallons of RNG annually to power a dozen new trucks. Paper Transport ranks No. 97 on the Transport Topics Top 100 list of the largest for-hire carriers in North America.
In Arizona, Clean Energy reached a 200,000-gallon-per-year deal with United Dairymen of Arizona to supply five fleets hauling dairy products with trucks equipped with new Cummins X15N engines.
Republic Services extended its RNG use with new fueling stations in Fort Collins and Parker, Colo., supporting 135 trucks, and a major expansion in North Las Vegas with 41 new fueling stalls and 15 additional trucks.
Other contracts include Giant Oil in Pennsylvania, fueling 180,000 gallons annually; Birkmire Trucking in New York and Pennsylvania with 100,000 gallons; Vestis for 12 medium-duty trucks in Texas and California; and Ecotech Waste Logistics in Indiana, adding 300,000 gallons for 30 vehicles.
In public transit, Clean Energy renewed its 15-year partnership with the Atlantic City Jitney Association to supply 125 new RNG shuttle buses through a major station upgrade providing 300,000 gallons annually.
Clean Energy also reported several smaller bulk liquefied natural gas agreements with energy and aerospace customers. The company operates LNG plants in California and Texas serving marine, exploration and industrial clients.
Clean Energy recently showcased its new Freightliner X15N demo truck at ' Management Conference & Exhibition, which wrapped up Oct. 28 in San Diego.
