OUISVILLE, Ky. — Rival independent heavy-duty engine makers Caterpillar Inc. and Cummins Inc. said last week they would continue to win sales, despite plans by some truck makers to increasingly use their own engines.
Cat and Cummins each also said they were expanding their engine businesses beyond the constrained U.S. big-rig market — an arena that helped push both companies to record profits and sales in 2004.
Caterpillar and Cummins outlined their distinct plans for growth at the Mid-America Trucking Show here last week.
