The Memorial Day holiday dawned to the highest U.S. diesel fuel prices in nearly four months, as an increase in every region combined to produce a national average price of $1.529 per gallon. That is 3.5 cents above the previous week.

Slumping sales at the nation’s biggest truck manufacturer have forced James L. Hebe to step down as chief executive officer of Freightliner and give way to former Chief Financial Officer Rainer Schmueckle, who has been named by the parent company DaimlerChrysler to replace him.
