The two largest Canadian freight rail lines, Canadian National and Canadian Pacific, each reported increases in profits for the second quarter.

Burlington Northern Santa Fe Corp. reported Tuesday record earnings of $470 million or $1.27 per share for the second quarter, up from $366 million or 96 cents a year ago.

Existing home sales fell 1.3% in June, the National Association of Realtors said Tuesday.

UPS Inc. said Tuesday its second-quarter profit rose 7.6% to $1.06 billion or 97 cents a share, from $986 million or 88 cents a year earlier.

Forward Air Corp., a contractor to the air cargo industry, said late Monday its second-quarter net income increased 8.9% to $13 million or 41 cents a share, from $12 million or 37 cents in 2005.

TransForce Income Fund, Montreal, Canada, announced Monday in a release that it has acquired Canadian less-than-truckload carrier Byers Transportation System Inc. and its subsidiaries from Landtran Systems Inc., an Edmonton, Alberta, Canada transportation and logistics firm.

Navistar International Corp. said the New York Stock Exchange will allow the company to trade its shares until February 2007 while the truck manufacturer completes financial filings that have been delayed since last September, Bloomberg reported Monday.
