Lawyers for American Trucking Associations said they will ask a federal judge on Jan. 11 to forgo a trial in ATA’s clean trucks lawsuit against the Port of Los Angeles and instead to issue a summary judgment in their favor.

Flatbed carrier Arrow Trucking Co. closed suddenly Dec. 22, shutting off its fuel cards and leaving an unknown number of drivers for its 1,400 trucks stranded around the country, industry and federal officials have said.

The average cost of a gallon of diesel in the United States rose for the first time in eight weeks, inching up 0.6 cent to $2.732 a gallon, the Department of Energy reported.

Beginning Jan. 1, officials at the Southern California sister ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach will face yet another challenge as they begin the second phase of their clean trucks plans: fewer trucks.

One silver lining in the financial storm of the past year or so had been a steep decline in the price of oil generally and diesel fuel in particular.

The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration has yet to announce the final fees for its Unified Carrier Registration Agreement, leaving states in financial limbo and some wondering if the program should be scrapped.
