ellow Corp. said its long-awaited acquisition of larger rival Roadway Corp. was scheduled to go into effect this week, in what would be the largest trucking merger in U.S. history.

Yellow said it expected to close the deal Dec. 11, pending approvals in shareholder meetings on Dec. 9.

Earlier, the Department of Justice had cleared the way for the two companies to proceed when its antitrust division on Nov. 18 allowed a 90-day review period to expire without action.

In the days leading up to the final shareholder voting that would authorize the deal to close, Yellow gave holders of Roadway shares until Dec. 5 to choose whether to receive cash or a cash-and-stock combination for their holdings.
