Wisconsin trucking company bought a former Wal-Mart store and plans to use it for cold and dry storage, the Lacrosse (Wis.) Tribune reported Wednesday.

Martin’s Bulk Milk Service acquired the property in Sparta, Wis., for $750,000 late last month, the paper said, citing county records.

The Wilton, Wis., company needed additional space, and buying and modifying the 53,000-square-foot former building will cost less than constructing an additional building, and is closer to Interstate 90, the Tribune reported, citing a company official.

Family-owned Martin’s is a 65-year-old company and has about 140 employees, the paper said. It hauls milk cheese, milk powder, meat products and furniture for about 30 customers to 40 states, the paper said.

The company has about 140 employees, Dave Martin said. It’s too early to know how many employees will work at the Sparta facility, but it probably won’t be a large number, he said. He hopes to start using the Sparta facility by the end of July.
