| Staff ReporterNegotiators for West Coast longshoremen and port operators resumed their talks Aug. 13 after a two-week break, with each side claiming the other was not bargaining in earnest.
During the hiatus, the Pacific Maritime Association, which represents port operators and shipping lines, said a mediator that was mutually agreed upon should be brought in unless the union starts bargaining seriously.
“The time has come for two options: hard bargaining or mediation,” PMA President Joseph Miniace said in an Aug. 9 statement.
