ruck trailer maker Wabash National Corp. late Monday reported third-quarter net income of $24 million or 66 cents a share, up from $20 million or 62 cents for the same period last year.

Net sales rose to $294 million, from $277 million a year ago, Wabash said in a statement.

Order activity “was stronger than seasonal patterns,” said Wabash Chief Executive Officer William Greubel. “Backlog grew over $100 million versus the previous quarter to $490 million.”

“We intend to manage production, inventory and shipments throughout the [fourth] quarter to achieve our customer requirements of 15,500 units,” he said in a statement.
